Overview
India is a country where Buddhism originated and later became a major world religion which is followed by huge number of pilgrims. This religion is originated on the basis of the teachings of Siddhartha Gautama who was born as a prince of the ancient Kapilavastu Kingdom which is situated at Lumbini in Nepal.
In India there are many significant places connected to the early days of this religion. Most of them being covered in the below given tour itinerary which include Bodhgaya, Rajgir, Nalanda, Patna, Vaishali, Kushinagar, Lumbini, Sravasti, Varanasi and Kapilavastu.
Itinerary - 07 Nights / 08 Days
Upon arrival at Gaya international airport meet our company representative who will pick you up and transfer to the hotel in Bodhgaya. Bodhgaya is the place of the Buddha's Enlightenment and is the spiritual home of Buddhists. Bodhgaya is situated near the river Niranjana, which attracts many believers from all over the world is one of the holiest Buddhist pilgrimage centres and in the second place of the four holy sites in Buddhism.
Afternoon we will go for sightseeing tour of Bodhgaya, first visit to Mahabodhi Temple – the temple, named after the Buddha, is a sacred place for the Buddhists in Bodh Gaya, Maha- bodhi tree - The tree is considered holy since Lord Buddha attained enlightenment under it. Also visit monasteries of different countries and archaeological museum. Overnight stay at Bodhgaya Hotel.
Early morning leave for Patna from Bodhgaya which is 6 hours’ drive, en-route visit Rajgir and Nalanda. Rajgir is a site of great holiness and significance for Buddhists. Rajgir is an important Buddhist pilgrimage site since the Buddha spent 12 years here and the first Buddhist council after the Buddha was hosted here at the Saptaparni caves. In afternoon we will visit Gridhakuta hill and Bimbisara jail. Drive to Nalanda which is 14 kms drive away and it was one of the oldest universities of the world and international centre for Buddhist studies. Drive to Patna which will take around 2 hrs. to reach and on arrival transfer to the hotel in Patna for overnight stay.
Morning proceed to Kushinagar which is around 7 hrs drive away, en-route visit Vaishali - place where Buddha announced the gaining of his Mahaparinirvana. After that continue drive to Kushinagar (place where Lord Buddha had left the world behind him after offering an priceless contribution to humankind, the great religion known as Buddhism). On arrival Kushinagar, get transferred to the hotel. Afternoon visit Mahaparinirvana Temple (where Buddha took his last breathe) and Rambhar Stupa (cremation site of Lord Buddha). Overnight stay at Kushinagar hotel.
Morning drive to Lumbini which is the birth place of Lord, it will take around 5 hrs to reach. On arrival get transferred to the hotel. Take some rest and in afternoon visit the birth place of Buddha - Mayadevi Temple. This place is known for its serenity and the natural beauty, purely coinciding to the perception of a place where the legend was born. Overnight stay at Lumbini hotel.
Morning leave for Sravasti which is 5.30 hrs drive away and en-route visit Kapilavastu - the childhood home of Gautam Buddha. After that proceed for Sravasti, where the Buddha preached most of his sermons. Here he is said to have performed many miracles, and levitated. During the monsoon, he used to stay at the Jetavana monastery on the outskirts of this town. After that we will visit Sahet Mahet and Angulimal caves. Enjoy overnight stay in Sravasti.
Morning proceed to Varanasi which will take around 08 hrs. to reach, it is one of the oldest living cities of the world. Upon arrival at Varanasi, we will first visit Sarnath which is the place where Lord Buddha had preached his first sermon to his five followers after accomplishing enlightenment. Visit to Dhamekh Stupa - one of the most visited and most revered Buddhist Shrines in the world. Also visit Sarnath Museum. Evening back to hotel for overnight stay.
Early mooring go for boat ride at River Ganges to enjoy the awesome view of Sunrise. After breakfast, drive to Bodhgaya which is 242 kms and 07 hrs drive away. On arrival, transfer to hotel followed by visit to Dungeswari Caves where Buddha had meditated for some time and then visit Niranjana River. Overnight stay in Bodhgaya.
After breakfast, checkout from hotel and transfer to International airport to connect flight for onward destination.
